A record low in the polls

New opinion polls released on Monday put Donald Trump's approval rating at its lowest recorded point. A Reuters/Ipsos survey measured his support at 32%, the weakest level polling has registered, and found the president losing ground among independent voters and Latinos who had backed him in 2024.

Latino support slips sharply

An NBC News/Telemundo poll published on Sunday showed how far support among Latino voters has slipped:

  • •59% of Latino voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, double the share that backed the party two years earlier
  • •Just 24% of Hispanic Americans approve of Trump's performance

What it means for Republicans

The drop could prove dire for the Republican party, landing one month before midterm elections that will determine control of Congress. Even conservative states are starting to show lost support, yet Trump has spent recent days campaigning across the country for Republican candidates.

Some Republicans have begun distancing themselves from the president on issues such as immigration as they try to hold onto local support, while Americans sour on the economy, the war with Iran and other key issues they attribute to the administration.

Trump's response

Trump shrugged off questions about his approval ratings before boarding a flight to Nebraska on Monday. Asked by a reporter about polls showing him losing Latino support, he gave a short answer and then blamed CNN and the media:

"I'm doing great"
