The alert began in the early hours of Sunday close to the southwest England installation utilized by the US military. A local resident alerted authorities after observing masked individuals beside three white vans blocking a road in a village adjacent to the base.

Police arrested five British men on Sunday on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offences. By Monday, all five individuals taken into custody had been released on bail.

Officers concluded their three-day search with a bomb disposal team on Tuesday, confirming the absence of explosives while retrieving a quantity of petrol from the vehicles.
