An investigation has revealed that Israel is using US-made electroshock weapons on Palestinian detainees, and that the American company behind the devices has not stopped shipping them.
Continued Supply Despite Evidence of Torture
The investigation found that US company Axon is still supplying the Taser weapons even though there is evidence they have been used to torture prisoners.
The findings place the devices - a US-made Taser among the electroshock equipment in question - at the centre of torture allegations linked to Israeli detention centres, with the supply chain running from an American manufacturer to the treatment of Palestinian detainees.
Rights Groups Call for Export Restrictions
Human rights groups have condemned the alleged torture and ill-treatment of detainees with electric shock devices. Among them, Amnesty has called for restrictions on exports of such devices.
Israeli Military Response
Asked about the findings, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces said the abuse of detainees was strictly prohibited.
The investigation's publication leaves the dispute open: Axon continues supplying the weapons, Amnesty is pressing for export restrictions, and the Israeli military maintains that abuse of detainees is not permitted.
