France Bomb Threats Investigation Opens Into Fake Airline Alerts and Possible Foreign Links
French prosecutors have opened an investigation into bogus bomb threats that targeted dozens of commercial flights in Europe over the past week, and will examine whether any links to foreign powers exist.

What the investigation covers
The Paris prosecutor's office announced the france bomb threats investigation this week, saying it will seek the authors of the emails behind the false information and determine any potential links they may have to foreign powers.
- •Dozens of commercial flights in Europe were targeted over the past week.
- •Several of the incidents concerned flights passing over French territory.
- •The French government has separately said the origin of the threats is being investigated.
A coordinated campaign across borders
Ireland's government said Friday that hoax bomb claims sent to Irish media outlets were likely part of a coordinated campaign of disruption linked to the threats against the airlines, according to the report of the probe.
The 'Male State' signature
Some of the threatening emails were signed "fighters of the Male State", a name matching that of a radical misogynist group in Russia, though AFP has not confirmed any link between the group and the messages.
Vladislav Pozdniakov, the group's founder, denied any involvement, saying on social media Friday that the movement does not exist since 2021.

Where things stand
No explosives have been found in any of the incidents so far, and those responsible have not been identified.
The inquiry continues as European countries watch closely for Russian interference against economic sectors and daily life on the continent, with Moscow's war against Ukraine approaching its fifth anniversary.
