Democrats Lead Races in Florida Congressional Districts Redrawn by Republicans
Democrats have won three of the four Florida congressional districts that Republicans redrew in their favor earlier in 2026 and lead narrowly in the fourth, according to election projections.

A map drawn for Republican gains
Governor Ron DeSantis and the Republicans who control the state legislature redrew Florida's congressional map earlier in 2026, creating four new districts: the ninth, 14th, 22nd and 25th, all drawn to favor Republicans.
- •Had the new districts been in place in 2024, Donald Trump would have won all but one by double digits.
- •He would have carried the remaining district by about nine points.
The projected winners
Despite the maps, Democrats Kathy Castor, Pia Dandiya and Jared Moskowitz are projected to win the 14th, 22nd and 25th districts respectively. In the ninth district, Democrat Darren Soto is leading.
Part of a wider Republican effort
Florida redistricting was one piece of a nationwide Republican push: Republicans in Texas, Florida, Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and North Carolina redrew districts in their favor. Some of the new districts in Texas and North Carolina likewise appeared winnable for Democrats. Nicholas Stephanopoulos, an election law professor at Harvard, cautioned against reading the Florida results as a defeat for the map-drawing effort.
In a NEUTRAL environment, they'd be gaining around nine seats net.
On X, he added that even in the current environment, the new maps will perform better than the old ones would have.
Elsewhere on the Florida ballot
In statewide 2026 midterm election results Florida also saw incumbent senator Ashley Moody defeat Democratic challenger Angie Nixon by a narrow margin. Republican Byron Donalds narrowly won the gubernatorial race, a contest few observers initially believed would be close.
Soto's narrow lead in the ninth district is the remaining result to watch among the redrawn Florida districts.
